Group Template

Publishers of multiple products tend to adopt similar operational strategies and data tracking schemes. Hence, when conducting data analysis, the same reports and dashboards can be applied.

The group template function allows you to replicate dashboards among different products and synchronize updates after modifications. This will significantly improve the efficiency of dashboard creation and synchronization.

Group templates can be used to:

  • Duplicate dashboards across products that share the same in-app events.
  • Synchronize the associated dashboards under the same template with one simple click.

Create New Template

1. Permitted users can create new group templates using the tab on the top right corner.

2. Choose a dashboard from the board list and click "next step". It is recommended to choose dashboards with general analytical value rather than those only applicable to one specific product. Also, make sure that the target product already has the in-app events required by the source templates. Otherwise, dashboard creation could fail.

3. Save the chosen dashboard as a template after filling in template name and remark (description).

Create Board from Template

All the created templates will be presented on the dashboard page under each specific product. You can use the template directly after checking its name, description, number of reports included, creator and creation time.

When clicking "Preview", you can preview the current template's layout and generation conditions of its reports. If it is an ROI analysis report, the header can also be previewed.

When clicking "Select Template", you will need to fill in some basic information, including the board name, the folder it belongs to, and the visibility permissions.

Bulk Create Board

The "Bulk Create" function allows you to create multiple templates for multiple products at once.

  1. Select one or more existing templates on the Group Template page.
  2. Click "Create to Product" and select one or more target products in the pop-up window.
  3. Click "Create" and configure the visibility permissions.
  4. Please note that the bulk-created dashboards do not support name modifications and are saved in the "My Dashboards" folder by default.

Update Template

When the creator of the source dashboard performs "Manage Reports" and clicks the "Confirm" button, we consider it as an update to the source dashboard.

Templates are created based on source dashboards. Therefore, whenever there is an update in the source dashboard, the corresponding template in the template list will display an update notification, and the template administrator can decide whether to update or not.

"Update" means synchronizing the changes made in the source dashboard to the template.

"Ignore" means disregarding the update in the source dashboard and keeping the template unchanged.

Update Dashboard

When there is an update in the template, the dashboards created from it will display an update notification, and the dashboard creator can decide whether to update or not.

"Update" means applying the latest template to the dashboard. Any edits made by users to the dashboard and reports within it before will be overwritten by the latest configuration in the template.

"Ignore" means disregarding the update of the template and keeping the dashboard unchanged.

Validation in Dashboard Creation & Update

To ensure that the dashboards created from templates can calculate and display data properly, SolarEngine will validate each report's generation conditions during dashboard creation and update. Reports that do not meet the conditions will not be created, and if none of the reports meet the conditions, the entire dashboard will not be created.

The following conditions must be met:

  • The operator has editable permissions for the analysis models involved in the source report.
  • The source report cannot use any of the user tags as a condition.
  • User properties, event properties and virtual properties involved in the source report must exist in the target product.
  • The value of properties with the same identifiers in the source report and the target product must remain consistent in terms of their data types.
  • The analytical entity in the source report must exist in the target product.

The validation of conditions above is performed when:

  • Create dashboards from templates
  • Bulk create dashboards
  • Update dashboards

Bulk creation may take longer if too many dashboards are created for multiple products at one time, because a large number of parameters need to be validated. Please wait patiently.

Delete Template & Source Dashboard

Only users with template editing permissions can delete templates.

Once the template is deleted, the connection between the source dashboards and associated dashboards will be severed. Updates made to the source dashboard will no longer be notified to associated dashboards, and the associated dashboards under the same template will not be able to synchronize updates anymore.

Similarly, once the source dashboard is deleted, the template and associated dashboards will be unable to synchronize updates anymore. Therefore, please delete with caution.
